What is in a name?

What is in a name?
Choosing a name is hard, whether it's for your child, your business, or even your pet.  It is an important decision, and in many cases a decision you are left with forever.  When we chose the name Taste and See Cakes and Cupcakes for our business it was not just a cute title for our sweets, the significance was much deeper than that.  It is our belief and our conviction.  We found our name in Psalm 34:8, which says, "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him." (NIV)

You see, this is a fundamental truth in our relationship with Jesus Christ.  As born again Christians we seek to live our lives to bring honor and glory to God.  We seek to learn His commands, obey Him, to rely on Him, and experience this wonderful life He has blessed us with- even though we are completely undeserving.  We intend to seek refuge in Him no matter what the circumstances of our life; not merely praising Him when times are good and forsaking Him when things get rough, but holding on to His truths and promises no matter what life brings.  We know that there are promises, truths, and hope fulfilled in scripture.  Every word is God breathed and entirely accurate.  "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him" is a promise.  It is a promise of blessings to come when we trust Him with our lives.  God loves us, He wants to bless us, and He promises us that our faithfulness and obedience to Him will not go unnoticed.  Our God is a God of beauty and joy, and He wants us to delight in Him and His creation.  The Lord is good, sweet friends, and we want to experience this deeply and personally, and for you to experience this deeply and personally too.

We are so blessed to have a Father who loves us, who wants to protect us and hold us, who wants us to seek refuge in HIM, and who wants to pour His blessings down on us.  So please, taste and see that the Lord is good- take refuge in Him- place your faith and your trust in Him, and experience firsthand this incredible relationship He desires to have with you and me.  If you don't have a personal, intimate relationship with Our Father, or you think you do (maybe you said a prayer when you were young) but haven't experienced this intimacy I am describing, please don't hesitate to talk to either one of us about it.  After all, THIS is what we are ultimately here for.  We are just temporary beings passing through this life, and this is not where we are meant to be forever.  We want to share the love of Jesus and the hope of salvation with everyone we can, and we would love to make you a cake while we are doing it.

Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed Is the man who trusts in Him! (NKJV)

Cake Pops...The New Cupcake??

Cake pops are cake mixed with icing rolled into a ball and hand dipped in candy coating.  They're an amazing combination of flavors and texture and are cute, delicious, wonderfully customizable, and a delectable two bite treat for any occasion! In the past year or two cake pops have crept up in the baking scene and are taking consumers by storm- surpassing even cupcakes with their popularity.  For the baker however, they are extremely time consuming and more than just a little temperamental.  Now that I'm finally getting the hang of it I have been having a blast experimenting with them (which is a good thing considering we have an order for five dozen that I'm working on right now!!) and am very excited about the opportunity to do more.  Check out some of our cute Thanksgiving varieties!

Will the Real Cakelady Please Stand Up?

Meet Mama Cakelady!

In all the hustle and bustle of baking, tasting, and organizing opportunities for Taste and See it occurred to me that I failed to introduce you to the real face of Taste and See.  This wonderful woman is the driving force behind Taste and See.  You guys rarely hear from her because she's usually busy baking.  Taste and See is a vision that has been long in the making- in a way, Anne (my mom- AKA Mama Cakelady) has been preparing for this most of her life.  As long as I can remember my mother has been proficient in the kitchen.  Her impressive cooking and baking has always been a trait of her's I've been proud to show off.  Growing up all of our friends wanted to come over to our house to eat, if we were having a bad day Mom knew just what to make to help cheer us up, and holidays were a wonderful time when we got to spend days in the kitchen preparing for big meals that we would eat leftovers from for days.  For all of our birthdays we had wonderful homemade cakes that my mom would bake just for us- always making sure it was our favorite.  The kitchen, baking, and food were a big part of our home, and in a way we all bonded over it.  Visiting, talking, laughing, playing games or cards after a holiday meal, or just catching up over a cup of coffee- much of our family time in our home was spent around food and in the kitchen.

While my baking skills are still at Novice Level, Mama Cakelady is at the Master Level.  She's showing me the ropes, baking and perfecting recipes that she then passes on to me with notes on how to emulate it so it can be just like hers.  She carries most of the burden of baking so far, but I hope I can soon catch up!  We're a great team and I'm blessed to have her foraging the path on our adventure!

Let Them Eat Cake

One of my favorite things about starting our business is trying out new recipes and tasting our awesome creations- who wouldn't love that?!  We get to reap the rewards of our culinary successes!  While my scale might not be happy about it I don't see my husband or kids complaining.  In this case trial and error is not too shabby.  I have mentioned I love food, right??

He may or may not have been devouring this cupcake in his Buzz Lightyear pajamas... and it may or may not have been right before bedtime.

Look Out Atlanta, Here We Come!

Where to start, oh where to start?  We're very excited (and slightly terrified!) by our new endeavor, but as Christopher Columbus said,  "You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore".  So here we go!

I love food; all kinds of food.  What's not to love?  The taste, smell, appearance, texture... so for a girl who loves food I think a great place to begin would be our menu.  Please check it out and feel free to give us any feedback or suggestions.  We truly are excited about doing business with you.
